Career Change

Career change is inevitable. If you decide to stay in the Army, you may want to change you MOS. When you decide to separate from the Army, either at ETS or retirement, it is vital to have and implement a solid transition plan.

Are you interested in changing your primary MOS? Determine if you meet the below basic reeclassification eligibility criteria listed in AR 614-200, Paragraph 3-18, or the Bonus Extension And Retraining (BEAR) Program eligibility criteria.

Basic Reclassification Eligibility Determination Matrix
Criterion Yes No
Is your MOS listed as overstrength (N/Y) on the current Reclassification In/Out Calls? If not, you may request consideration for the 21D, 21P, 31D, 68W, 68V, 89D, or 94S (if otherwise eligible according to DA Pam 611-21).
Are you willing to reclassify into a shortage (Y/N) MOS on the current Reclassification In/Out Calls (otherwise eligible according to DA Pam 611-21)?
Are you not on Assignment Instructions?
Have you completed 12 months time on station?
Are you not serving on an initial enlistment under the Army Civilian Acquired Skills Program?
Are you not receiving a bonus for current term of enlistment/reenlistment? You may agree to recoupment of the unearned portion of bonus to become eligible.
If you are OCONUS, are you within 5 to 12 months of DEROS?
If you have a service remaining requirements, is it fulfilled?
If you are stabilized as a result of reenlistment, are you willing to waive your reenlistment option?
Are you eligible to reenlist or extend per AR 601-280, Chapter 3?

When you decide to separate from the Army, you need to immediately begin the ACAP process. The process equips you with necessary transition information and skills through a TAP workshop, job fairs, conducting job market analysis, submitting applications and resumes, and participating in job interviews.
